September in Novi Sad: Events You Shouldn’t Miss

New beginnings, the changing of the seasons, a new European Capital of Culture programme arch, and thus a new dose of art in Novi Sad. September in Novi Sad offers us all of this, starting with the opening of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, the best European Trend Brand in culture, but it also brings us many other great events at different locations around the city which will accompany us throughout this month. The Kaleidoscope of Culture is held in Novi Sad from 1 September to 7 October, and this important event will take place for the fifth time in the year of the ECoC title. During five weeks, Novi Sad will be presented through five types of art (architecture, visual art, performing arts, literature, and applied art). We highlight only some of the suggestions and invite you to regularly follow our calendar on the website to keep up to date with all the events in the city. As always, we have suggestions for all ages and everyone, so mark some of these dates in your planner and create your own miniature kaleidoscope.

The Kaleidoscope of Culture Opening

When: from September 1 to 4

Where: District, Liman

September in Novi Sad will mark the beginning of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, which will paint the city’s renovated District, the former industrial quarter, with the most vivid colours of art through incredible 105 events. We have singled out 5 reasons for you to visit the opening, and we are sure you will find more. The rich opening programme brings us as many as 22 exhibitions and installations, of which we single out one of the largest interactive installations in Europe, Autokorekt, the work of the Karkatag art collective, winner of the prestigious award The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust, which will be installed on the facade of SCCNS Fabrika. Our proposal is definitely the Biennale of Stage Design, because you will meet the so-called invisible people of the theatre, the masters of the craft behind the stage, who do not receive ovations for their work, and without whose hands and work, the theatre, stage, and costumes would not exist. Among the multitude of visual art content, we highlight the Art of Gaming exhibition and gaming conference, where we will experience the synergy of art and video games in a different way, because gaming is an active art. On this occasion, we will meet the curator of this programme, Tijana Prodanović, PhD, an astrophysicist and famous Tiktok star.

The culture of togetherness, the slogan of the Kaleidoscope of Culture, will get its affirmation by holding a modern slet, and you can learn from this article on our website what SLET once meant for Yugoslavia and how massive this event was. Be sure not to miss the choreographic performance Against the Wind – a Response to Slet, which will be performed from 1 to 3 September from 7 p.m. in the District, as part of the opening.

The district will also be enriched by the international dance festival Tanz Platz, which will delight all dance lovers, but you will surely like some of the performances and films that we will watch in open air, as well as a great music programme and top performers who will rock the music stages at Liman.
